Artists in Action at the Manitou Art Center

Artists in Action is a juried event hosted by the Manitou Arts Center. This exhibition showcases contemporary, innovative and powerful visual art driven by Social Conscience, Concern, Advocacy and Activism.

I am honored that my painting ”Raft of the Doomed Ursine”(acrylic on canvas, 24”x36”) was selected for this show. The painting references a number of environmental and social issues that affect not only the depicted polar bears, but also global environmental dangers. Some of the issues referenced include: global warming, environmental pollution, habitat destruction, and extinction.

The painting is inspired by the famous, classical painting by Théodore Géricault”Raft of the Medusa” Which depicts the plight of a group of sailors forced onto a raft when their ship, the Medusa, was lost at sea.
