The Theresa Mine is an icon for the historic gold mining town of Victor, Colorado. It is one of the first abandoned mines that one sees when coming over Victor Pass while approaching the town. On my very first trip to Victor on an early morning in August 2017 I saw this mine with a brilliant rainbow off to the left. Rainbows and gold, a perfect combination. Unfortunately for this mine, the pot of gold there was emptied.
This painting is one of four paintings completed at the 2022 Victor Celebrates the Arts plein air event the week before the Labor Day weekend. Victor, Colorado is an historic gold mining town in the high in the mountains around Pikes Peak. The landscape around Victor is filled with abandoned gold mines, mining equipment, and former living quarters from the robust mining community that began in the late 1890's. Victor also sits at the base of the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine, an active open pit gold mine and the only significant producer of gold in Colorado.
