"Flintlock Pistols, Vienna 1700-1725" is a 12x24 inch oil on panel.
I spotted these magnificent hand-crafted pistols at the Art Institute of Chicago in June of 2019 in the Armory display. The pair of pistols were hanging in a glass case. The workmanship and detail in the design and execution of these pistols called on me to try to replicate that same amount of craftsmanship in a painting. The frame that was selected for the finished painting is intended to evoke the feeling of a case that was designed specifically to showcase these pistols. The powder horn hanging below the pistols is of my own invention and was not included in the display at the museum.
